What is EFT Tapping and How Does it Work?

So what is EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)?

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) tapping, is an alternative therapy that combines a powerful combination of ancient Chinese Acupressure and Modern Psychology. It is a gentle, self-soothing technique that involves tapping on yourself on different energy meridian endings throughout your body. There are many different tapping points that can be used, however in clinical EFT tapping we just use 8.


How Does EFT Work?

So how does EFT work? Well.. when we tap, a few things are happening to our mind & body.

When tapping on (stimulating) the ends of these energy meridians, you are dispersing stuck energy throughout your body allowing it to release, shift and rebalance.

When we tap on these energy meridians, we also send an immediate calming signal to our brain (the amygdala) area of the brain that is responsible for our flight or fight response and our brain will produce the chemicals that activate the parasympathetic nervous system (the relaxation response) making it a healthy way to deal with stress.

This calming response tells the Amygdala that we are not in any kind of physical danger and allows us to return to our natural state of "rest & digest" providing a feeling of relief in our physical symptoms as well as lowering cortisol (your main stress hormone). 

 When this response occurs during a tapping session and the client has been exposed to their memory, emotion, belief etc (talking about it) this exposure therapy combined with tapping allows our mind to break the connection between thought & emotion effectively creating a distant memory of your issue.

 Once tapping has resolved your issue, it is highly unlikely that you will ever need to deal with it again! Pretty amazing hey!


Does EFT Tapping Really Work?

Research is now showing that EFT is not only effective as a stress management tool to deal with stress, trauma, PTSD & anxiety but that it is also extremely effective as a personal transformation tool to reframe our thinking and our mindset to let go of and re-program any limiting self-beliefs, fears, addictive behaviours and instil a positive mindset.

Now we come to what is EFT used for and the answer is actually everything! EFT can be used for anything that is going on for you that you need to address. Anxiety management, dealing with stress, personal performance, career performance, stage fright, unresolved trauma, addictive behaviours such as smoking, coffee & sugar, weight management, cravings, phobias, financial mindset, mindfulness, motivation, self-doubt, pain management, childhood trauma, generational trauma and is also safe and effective in children & teens.
